3. What training do you have to go through to be a preschool teacher? Is there a certain degree that has to be obtained? By observing, I noticed that teachers must learn to talk to students in a certain positive way, is this true? What skills best suit someone looking to work with kids other than to be patient?
4. Wanting to work with kids, young kids, I learned that you must be patient, sensitive and kind with kids. Many times I say teachers explain to the students why they shouldn't fight or do other things that weren't right; giving them full explanations. I remember I had to explain to a student, Giovanni, why the word 'gay' was bad to say. I thought being a part of a day care would be different I didn't expect there to be a certain guide to being a teacher. Not once did I hear any of the teachers scream or about to the students, because you can't. Kids at a young age are not meant to be punished for their actions or scolded they are supposed to be explained why what they did was wrong. Many times they will not get it right away but after explaining to them consistently they begin to understand and learn. Enrique, a student that has autism, would be physical with students and his helper would tell him, "Enrique we do not push our friends." Or in other cases we have to be supportive and kind, Enrique's helper would tell him, "Enrique thank you for using your helping hands" or "Enrique good job using your fork." Those kinda of supportive kind words help students remember what they are doing is right. Doing this summer mentorship has helped me alot in learning about working with kids and the certain needs they must be provided with.
5. Learning all the things from my summer mentorship helped me come across a topic by widening my range of seeking one. I don't have to restrict myself to things that have to do with careers but also other things such as the right way to teach a preschool student the fundamentals and morals of life.
